Client crashes when launching and opening workspace from command line

If the client is not already running, executing
open -a /Applications/MWClient.app workspace.json
causes the client to crash immediately after opening.
The crash happens in a mutex unlock in an event listener thread. Maybe something hasn't been initialized properly?
